Interactive Session Spotlight: "Your Technology and the Conflict in Congo"

sarah_bio_sxsw_9294_1.jpgWe all love the latest technology. Getting the latest version of your smartphone or a fancy new computer can be a huge thrill. But are we aware of the true cost? In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), there is a war being waged for access to mineral-rich land that is directly linked to our technology consumption. The sale of minerals for our electronics – tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold – fuels the fighting in the DRC. Women and girls are the ones paying the highest price.

We need and want technology, but at what price? Join Sarah Fretwell of The Truth Told project for her session, "Your Technology and the Conflict in Congo", taking place at the AT&T Conference Hotel. Making a difference doesn't mean you have to end your love affair with technology. Instead, you can join the many advocates for conflict-free electronics and become a more educated technology consumer. Use the hashtag #SXcongo to join the conversation.
